Thank you for taking the time to consider registering with HealthWise Wales.
The pages within this "FAQ" section contain detailed information on all aspects of the project. You do not need to know all of this information before you register, but we hope that you will find an answer to any questions that you have here.
On this page, we answer some more detailed questions on what's involved in taking part.

Why should I agree to take part in the project?
We need as many people as possible to take part to make it useful. It's an important part of helping us to understand health and wellbeing, and improve health and social care services in Wales. We can't do it without you!
It's important that all types of people join HealthWise Wales. We need a mix of people of all ages, backgrounds and areas to take part because everyone has different experiences and views.
Do I have to sign up?
No, it's entirely up to you.
Will I need to agree to everything?
It's important to understand that to join the study you have to agree to give us your contact details and to allow us to access and use your NHS records now and in the future. You'll need to agree that we can access and use your healthcare records in confidence for many years (even if you loseand when you die) as the project will be ongoing. So, if you don't want us to do this, you will not be able to join the study.
If you lose capacity, your relatives will be able to contact us to inform us of what we should do with your information.
All of the other activities (questionnaires, new studies or events to which you are invited) are voluntary, so you will be able to choose which ones you would like to take part in.
If you feel uncomfortable about answering certain questions in any of the questionnaires, then you don't need to answer them. You may also wish to discuss this with us, by phoning us on 0800 9 172 172 (free from most landlines) or 02920 768 090. Our office hours are 8.00 am to 7.00 pm Monday to Friday.
Can I take part if I don't live in Wales?
HealthWise Wales is only for people living in Wales or using health services in Wales. However, if you would like to take part in research, you could visit Be Part of Research. This service lists studies which are taking place across the United Kingdom. Anyone can search for studies by location or condition and ask to take part.
